''O canada'' is
the official anthem of Canada. The song was a poem composed by the poet Sir
Adolphe-Basile Routhier and Calixa Lavalée wrote the music as a setting of this
French Canadian poem. Originally the song was commissioned by Lieutenant
governor of Quebev Theodore Robitaille for the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony
on 1880. The original letters were written in French and were translated into
English in 1906 but the most popular version in English was written by Robert
Stanley Weir in 1908 but this is not a literal translation of the French
version.
